Opaline Phytoliths
Collaborative Research With Dr. Carlos Cordova

Dr. Carlos Cordova spent part ofJanuary 16 and 17, 2008 on-site at the Mammoth Site taking samples of plaque from mammoth teeth, trying to recover opal phytoliths (silica rods peculiar to plant species) to see if he can determine what Mammoth Site mammoths were eating. This produce additions to our plant inventory, as sometimes diagnostic phytoliths remain when pollen has been destroyed. He sampled several teeth and some soil. We should have results in several weeks!
